The Department of Journalism has a vacancy for a research assistant to commence duties in February 2023.
The successful applicant will conduct research linked to a multinational research project “Resisting Information Disorder in the Global South”, funded by the International Development Research Center (Canada) and led by Prof Herman Wasserman.
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research on aspects related to disinformation, its impact on journalism and trust in the media, and explore ways in which investigative journalism may counter disinformation in African contexts. The aim of the fellowship is to contribute to knowledge production in the area of disinformation in Africa through publication and research activities.
This workshop aims to examine the cross-platform messaging service WhatsApp and its relationship with disinformation and extreme speech in a global perspective.
