The Department of Journalism at Stellenbosch University was thrilled to welcome a new cohort of Master of Arts (MA) students on the 20th of January 2025. These students embarked on their academic journey with the first MA seminar block week, designed to introduce them to their coursework and provide essential tools to navigate their studies. Pursuing a master’s degree can be both exciting and challenging, and our program caters to different academic preferences by offering coursework-based studies with a mini-thesis as well as a full-thesis option. We are eager to support our new students and wish them a fulfilling and successful year ahead.
A week later, on the 27th of January, our department was once again abuzz with excitement as we welcomed the new BAHonours students for the 2025 academic year. The BAHonours program is one of our flagship offerings, renowned for its practical, hands-on approach to journalism. As part of their orientation, the students took part in a field visit across Stellenbosch to engage with the rich history and diverse communities of the area. Their trip included stops at the historic Luckhoff School, as well as the neighborhoods of Idas Valley, Kayamandi, and Cloetesville. Understanding one’s surroundings and community is an integral part of journalism, and this immersive experience set a strong foundation for the year ahead.
We are incredibly proud to welcome both our MA and BA Honours students to the department and look forward to witnessing their growth and achievements throughout the year. We wish them all the best in their academic journey for 2025!
