The Department of Journalism at Stellenbosch University is gearing up for its annual celebration of World Press Freedom Day. This year, with UNESCO spotlighting the theme A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis, the event aims to underscore journalism’s essential role in tackling environmental challenges.
Speakers at the event include:
– Leonie Joubert: Science Writer and Journalist
– Rupert Koopman: Conservation Manager at the Botanical Society of South Africa
– David Le Page: Co-founder of Fossil Free South Africa
– Dominic A. Okoliko: CREST Postdoctoral Fellow at Stellenbosch University
In addition to these talks, the day will mark the launch of our BA Honours Class of 2024 newspaper, titled The State of the Elements – South Africa’s Climate Crisis, highlighting the urgent environmental issues facing the country.
